Step one is a complete examination with a dentures dentist in Delaware. This is done to ensure that there are no underlying conditions that could adversely affect the fit and longevity of the dentures. We will complete a full oral examination as well as take a number of x-rays and photographs that allows us to examine the mouth, the soft gum tissue, and the bone. Though it is not common for people to have challenges, we prefer to find things like gum disease early in the process so that it can be corrected before we proceed to measurements.

Step two consists of taking measurements and the dental impression. We will be taking detailed measurements so that when the laboratory formulates your personalized dentures they will have all the information they need to give you a perfect fit. The dentures themselves are based on the impression we will be taking, which is made of poured plaster. This poured plaster attaches itself to the gums and teeth, and when removed forms a perfect replica of your mouth. This replica is used as the basis for fabricating the dentures themselves.

Step three is also called the CJR (central jaw relation) or the MMR (maximum mandibular retrusion) step. In this step, we will be making sure that the teeth are the right length so that they do not create any conflict with your bite or jaw alignment. We will also be aligning the denture with the rest of your facial features. To do this, we use a loose fitting denture base implanted with wax. The wax simulates teeth. We will have you bite down several times and then make adjustments to the shape and length of the wax until the alignment is perfect. We need to make sure that when you put the final product in your mouth, your dentures do not cause any clicking when you eat or chew and this step helps with that process.
