An Emergency Dentist Visit Will Help More Than a Trip to the ER

Do you need an emergency dentist? If you do then where is the first place you would look to find one? If you answered “Google”, you are probably like the vast majority of American's who do not have an emergency dentist listed on their contacts or their emergency contact sheet. This is not because people do not care about urgent care for their teeth. Much to the contrary, when people have a toothache they cannot wait to get in and seek medical attention. Unfortunately, very few people take the time to consider that they might someday need urgent care for their teeth and head to the hospital as a result.

Teeth are very good at fading into the background, efficiently providing a first step for the digestive process. The only time most people consider their teeth is when they are brushing them, when something is stuck in them, or when they are in pain and need to seek medical attention. When faced with the need for an emergency dentist, few people have a plan of where to turn. The best place to start is to plan ahead by putting our office number in your phone. If a problem does arise, the most important thing you can do is to make sure you treat your dental issue like it is an emergency and seek the right kind of care. Putting off getting medical attention can result in serious damage to your teeth or gums, increases in the time and cost to fix the problem, and a potential spread of a disease or infection.

Many people seek their emergency dentist treatment at the emergency room of a local hospital. You cannot get the expertise you need in the emergency room. Emergency room doctors are trained physicians who will do the best they can to make you as comfortable as possible. They will treat your pain, ensure that you are not bleeding, and patch you up until you can see a dentist. Unfortunately, in a recent study conducted by the Federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, it was found that over a three-year period the number of people seeking emergency dentist services at the emergency room, increased by over 16%. This is unfortunate because there are emergency dentists, like us, who can provide you with the symptom relief while still being able to treat the underlying problem that is leading to your pain in the first place. The studies also show that people who are treated for dental problems in the emergency room often return, with 20% of the treated patients returning for the same problem.

Toothaches are the number one reason people seek out urgent care for their mouth. As an emergency dentist, we see a lot of people with excruciating pain, which can be very debilitating, due to their teeth. Usually, deep-seated tooth pain is caused by some kind of infection or, worse, a gum disease that requires immediate medical attention. We can solve these problems in our emergency dentist office and do so quickly and after hours as needed.
