Broken Dentures: When to Get Them Replaced

dentures Delaware, OH

Dentures are used when someone needs to replace missing teeth. But, what many do not realize, is that dentures may need their own replacement too. Just like any other prosthetic oral appliance, dentures will not remain perfect for forever. They may require replacement every once in a while and we are here to tell you when that may be needed.

There are a lot of options that one can consider when in need of tooth replacement but dentures tend to be the most affordable and they are surely the most traditional option. If you have dentures or are considering them then it may be helpful to know when replacement is needed. Read on to find out more!

Broken dentures: When to get them replaced

The following are the most common reasons that broken dentures should be replaced. If you are unsure of whether or not your dentures need to be replaced then you may find this article useful.

Loose fit

Over time, dentures get worn down and they may become extremely loose. Loose dentures can present a whole host of problems including an uneven fit which can make eating and speaking very hard. When dentures are loose, they may also make someone very uncomfortable which can also be problematic.

Stains

Again, with time, dentures can stain pretty badly which can result in unpleasant looking dentures. When dentures are severely stained, it is likely that there is no coming back. Replacement must take place so that the damaged dentures can appear natural-looking. Although the aesthetics of dentures are not the most important part of them, it can be hard to feel comfortable if they look stained or dirty.

Cracked

Because dentures are fragile, it is important that they are given the care that they need. However, even if special care is given to them, they are still prone to damage because they are so fragile.

With that being said, cracks can occur. If the dentures are dropped or set down too hard, they may crack which can cause problems for the person wearing them. Cracks can cause the dentures to break over time which will result in a need for replacement.

Damaged denture base

The base of the dentures is the most important part of the prosthetic which, if broken, can become quite problematic. The dentures will no longer function which means a person cannot eat or smile properly. A damaged denture base is an automatic call for replacement because the dentures will not be able to function properly.

Tight fit

The body changes as people age and that includes the mouth too. Over time, as the mouth changes, dentures may begin to feel too tight. Dentures that are too tight may not be broken but they are not properly helping the mouth which can result in a need for replacement. Thankfully, tight dentures can easily be replaced.
