Endodontics Treatments Can Save an Injured Tooth
If your tooth is injured, endodontics treatments can help save your tooth so that it doesn't fall out or need to be removed and negatively impact your smile. This is an important solution for patients who want to retain their natural smile. We specialize in these treatments and can provide the solutions you need.
Many people are unaware of what an Endodontist can do for them. There are several types of treatments and procedures that fit into this category and the one you will need is based on your specific oral health condition and the best option for correcting it.
Here are some of the endodontics treatments we can provide:
Root canals. When your tooth and the underlying roots become infected it can cause a great deal of pain and eventually cause your tooth to fall out. An Endodontist can safely repair the infected tooth with a root canal. In this procedure, the dental pulp (soft center of your tooth) is cleaned or removed with a filling put in its place. The infected roots are also removed in this procedure. Your tooth doesn't need the roots to function once they are in place. By removing the infected roots the pain will go away and the tooth can remain in place.
Endodontic surgery. If a root canal alone cannot save your tooth you may need endodontic surgery. This can be used to remove calcium deposits and identify and repair any fractures that were not identified on the initial x-ray. It can also treat damaged root surfaces or further tooth decay. During the surgery, infected gums can also be treated so that the entire area can start being in better health again.
Endodontic retreatment. After a root canal has been performed the tooth may not heal completely or need further treatment down the road. When this happens, endodontic retreatment can be needed for long-term oral health. In retreatment, we remove the filling that was placed in your tooth the first time. We look for any additional infections or canals, then clean the entire area, remove any lingering infection, and put a temporary filling in. Once the tooth has healed completely we can cap it with a crown or other permanent filling.
Endodontics can help save your tooth so that you don't need to have it removed. Keeping your natural smile is always the first choice and we aim to keep you healthy. By having your teeth cleaned and examined twice a year, we can remove the bacteria and plaque buildup that can cause a tooth infection and gum disease. Preventative care is the best way to improve your oral health. It is less painful; less time consuming, and will save you money.
If you are experiencing severe tooth pain or sensitivity, you should schedule an appointment right away. We may be able to solve the problem without needing to do a full root canal. The longer you wait to seek dental treatment, the more the infection will grow, and the more pain you will experience.
